Why a Slovak shop, and why now

Roughly half a million Slovaks live elsewhere in the EU. There are shops for them — mostly Czech ones, where Slovakia is a sub-menu, and a few UK grocery importers that are now stuck behind a customs border. What did not exist was a shop from Slovakia, curated by Slovaks, that sends a beautiful box rather than a plastic bag of wafers with three weeks left on the date.

Slovak Pantry is run by Teamday s.r.o., a small company in Bratislava. We pack every order ourselves in a standard 31 × 21 × 12 cm box, which keeps parcels in the cheapest weight band and lets us ship to 25 EU countries at honest prices.

What we put in the box

• Snacks & sweets — Horalky, Kávenky, Mila and the rest of the Sedita family, Figaro chocolate, Verbena and Snehulky candies, wine gums, Tatranky. Long dates, fresh batches.
• Pantry — raw forest and acacia honey from small beekeepers, Slovak herbal tea blends, Lyra bean-to-bar chocolate from Nitra, Kofola syrup, bryndza-halušky mixes for the brave.
• Crafts & home — corn-husk (šúpolie) Christmas ornaments, hand-painted Modra majolica, wire art in the drotárstvo tradition, Čičmany-pattern textiles.
• Design & wear — Puojd socks and small apparel, contemporary Slovak makers who deserve a bigger audience.
• Gift boxes — the hero of the shop. Curated combinations of the above, from a €29 “Mini domov” to a €89 Christmas box with majolica and craft chocolate.

A few deliberate omissions: we don’t sell alcohol (excise rules differ in every country and we’d rather not guess), we don’t sell anything that needs refrigeration, and we don’t sell things we wouldn’t send to our own parents.

How we work

We buy directly from producers or their official wholesalers, check dates and packaging on arrival, and store everything dry and cool. Orders placed before 14:00 on a working day usually leave the same day; the rest go the next morning. Every parcel gets a card in Slovak, English and German explaining what each item is and why we chose it — because half our recipients are partners, in-laws and colleagues who have never seen a Horalka in their life.

We use Packeta and GLS, which means real tracking, pick-up points in most cities, and a claims process that actually works when a jar arrives cracked (rare, because we wrap them like they’re going to space).
