Danka a Janka is the book Slovak parents abroad ask us for most: Mária Ďuríčková's 1961 stories about twin sisters who are so alike that even their mother mixes them up, illustrated in the gentle, warm style that generations of Slovak children have grown up with. Short chapters, big pictures, simple language — ideal for reading aloud to three-to-eight-year-olds who hear Slovak at home but see it nowhere else.
Hardback edition from the Slovak children's publisher Buvik, about 90 pages, 350 g. Slovak language only, which is the point.
