Corn-husk figures (šúpolienky) are one of the oldest folk crafts in Slovakia: after the harvest, the dried inner leaves of the maize cob are soaked, layered and tied into figures without glue or paint. This angel is made by an artisan from the ÚĽUV (Centre for Folk Art Production) network in western Slovakia, each one slightly different in the fold of the wings and the tilt of the head.
About 10 cm tall with a natural-fibre loop for hanging on the tree, or to stand on a windowsill. The husk keeps its warm straw colour for years if kept dry and out of direct sun.
Shipped in a small rigid kraft box with tissue paper, so it arrives uncrushed and can be given as it is. Order early: artisans make these in batches through autumn and Q4 capacity is limited.
