A complete betlehem (nativity scene) in corn husk: Mary, Joseph, the child in a manger, two shepherds and a sheep, each figure 8–14 cm tall and tied by hand from soaked maize leaves. The hand-made variations — the angle of a shepherd's hat, the folds of Mary's shawl — are what make each set its own.
Made to order by an artisan from the ÚĽUV (Centre for Folk Art Production) network in western Slovakia. Because the figures are made in autumn batches, please allow up to 10 working days for dispatch in November and December; the set is shipped in a rigid box with individual tissue wrapping.
The nativity is the centrepiece of a Slovak Christmas corner, and a piece that families keep and pass on. Kept dry and out of direct sun, corn husk lasts for decades. Decorative object, not a toy.
